Shawn Short, MFA, Producing Artistic Director
Award-winning professional performing artist trained in music, theatre, and dance, Shawn is an artistic scholar with more than 20 years of arts education experience: working and developing programming in higher education, community projects, outreach programs, arts enrichment programs, nationally ranked arts organizations, and with public school systems.
An accomplished producing artistic director with more than nine years’ experience working in theatre and dance company management, Shawn has proven his project management abilities with capacity to design, plan, implement and evaluate projects from conception through completion; able to manage multiple responsibilities without compromise to detail or quality. Shawn has built Dissonance Dance Theatre into a sustainable arts organization in the Washington, D.C. area. He holds a BFA in Theatre from Howard University and a MFA in Dance from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Shawn is a researcher of African-American D.C. dance history and new business models. His focus is to preserve Black D.C. Dance history and create vocational dance training opportunities; increasing dance education access to communities of color.
